It is hard to say if it is jet lag or the run-of-the-mill kind of tired that results from sun-drenched days, hundreds of handstands, and hours of swimming, but the girls definitely are showing signs of weariness. Not that this stops us, but one can still have drama over imperfectly placed hair accessories amid the beauty and wonder of this place.
Yesterday started with Cocoa Krispies for breakfast. When we were on sabbatical in 2009, John had a an NSF conference in Waikiki, and so we came to Hawaii then with Maddox. I had bought a few groceries for our hotel room, but could only find Cocoa Krispies in single-serve portions. So Maddox's vague recollections of Hawaii were that they had chocolate Rice Krispies that turned your milk into chocolate milk. AT BREAKFAST. For a few years, she thought this was a uniquely Hawaiian delicacy. Although she now knows they sell Cocoa Krispies on the mainland, we had to indulge this sweet memory.
Last night we went to the Starlight Hui which was Aulani's tribute to Hawaiian culture. The show was well done, although both girls were nearly asleep on the woven mats, despite the music, torches, and the chiseled men in a traditional state of undress.
Today started with a breakfast buffet that allowed us to meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse. John and Maddox were able to go for a walk along the edge of the lagoon and see some sea turtles, and we spent many hours at the pools. We ended the night with "date night" while the girls played at Auntie's Beach House (complimentary babysitting). Everyone is looking forward to sleeping in, hopefully past 6:30.
In other news, my computer is on the fritz and editing the blog from an iPad is a bit cumbersome. Will do my best to post, but bear with me!
Life in paradise can be exhausting, but who can pass up breakfast with the most famous mice of all? Bet naptime is starting to sound magical. Loving your pics & posts.
